Finding Peace
Luke 19:41-42 (NLT)
Pastor John Black
Listening Guide
Luke 19:41–42 (NLT)
41 But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. 42 “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.
Jesus was weeping for two groups of people as He entered Jerusalem:
- Those who willfully rejected
- Those who superficially accepted
- Both groups of people voided their opportunity for peace!
Two ways we frequently rob our lives of peace:
- We allow our selfish pride to destroy our life!
- We don’t realize that our missed expectations are the source of our frustration!
How do we find peace for our life?
- Allow Christ to be the ruler of our life!

Dr. Nate Bock
Listening Guide
1. Understand the Voice You Hear (John 10:1-10, 24-27)
A. God's Voice (John 10:24-27) (2 Timothy 3:16)
God's voice is a guiding voice we can follow.
God's voice can be heard through His word.
God's voice convicts you.
B. Our Voice (Jeremiah 17:9) (Matt 15:19)
This is the voice in your head that is telling you to satisfy your desires with anything that doesn't match God's desires. Our hearts are wicked and deceitful, and we would be fools to trust them.
C. The Voice of the Enemy (John 10:10)
This is the voice in your head that is doubting God and telling you to rebel against Him. This voice condemns you.
2. Submit our thoughts, ideas, and feelings to God. (Phil 4:6-8)
3. Open yourself to Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit through the words of the Bible. (Romans 12:2) (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Final Questions:
1. What "strongholds" do you have that need to be demolished?
2. What thoughts need to be "taken captive?"
3. What are you worrying about that you should be praying about?
4. How will you get God's Word into your mind every day?

Pray for God to “Break Me” of all …
* Idolatry

Pray for God to “Break Me” of all …
* Sinfulness
- Healing starts when we break apart.
- We impress people with our strengths; we connect with people in our struggles.
III. Observing Jesus’ Example [Luke 22:19]
And Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “This is My body, which is given for you….”
Pray for God to “Break Me” of all …
* Selfishness
Three reflective questions …
- What am I not willing to give up for Jesus?
- What am I not willing to forsake for Jesus?
- What am I not willing to do for Jesus?

Today’s Big Idea
“Our faith will grow when it’s planted in the fertile soil of God’s Word.”
The sad reality is that the majority of American Christians do not engage in God’s Word on a daily basis.
Today’s Objective
To observe how King David viewed God’s Word, which produced in him a deep desire for God’s Word.
1. David’s Descriptions of God’s Word
God’s Word is … (Psalm 19:7-9)
- The perfect instruction
- The means of renewal
- The source of trust
- The guide for blessings
- The method of understanding
- The force of holiness
2. David’s Desire for God’s Word
God’s Word is … (Psalm 19:10)
- Invaluable
- Incomparable
3. David’s Discernment From God’s Word
God’s Word …(Psalm 19:12-13)
- Exposes our hidden sins
- Restrains us from our sinful rebellion
4. David’s Devotion to God’s Word
God’s Word produces … (Psalm 19:14)
- Holy actions
- Holy thoughts
A simple approach to the most powerful Spiritual Discipline available to us
(Bible Ingestion)
- Read it
- Reflect upon it
Does God’s Word reveal something I should …
- believe about God?
- praise or thank or trust God for?
- pray about for myself or others?
- have a new attitude about?
- make a decision about?
- do for the sake of Christ, others or myself?
- do or stop doing because of a direct command?
- Remember it
- Memorize it
- Mediate on it
- Respond to it
- Obey what God tells you to do!
